Job description:

This is a great opportunity for an outdoor person, with an interest in country pursuits and wildlife. You do not need experience in falconry; what’s more important is that we employ someone reliable and self-motivated, with a positive attitude and customer friendly manner and appearance.

On this occasion we are looking for an experienced Falconer, preferably with their own birds of prey.

Responsibilities:

An NBC Falconer is responsible for using falconry, distress calls, blank guns shots, kites and other methods to prevent scavenging birds from feeding on a waste site and causing nuisance to local neighbours and site staff.

Each site has specific requirements, such as:

  • Prevent no more than 20 scavenging birds access to site for 20 minutes
  • Attend site at contracted times
  • Fly the birds during the day in a manner which effectively scares and deters nuisance birds
  • Provide a minimum of 6 flights per day
  • Use all supportive deterrents at your disposal to maintain a level of control should weather not permit flying of the falcons
  • Carry out regular patrols of the site

We will also ask you to develop a positive working relationship with the client, complete daily reports for the site file and liaise with your area manager to improve the service where possible. If problems arise that will affect service to the client, we expect you to notify your area manager as soon as possible.

At NBC, our working birds are a key part of the team and you’ll be responsible for housing them and keeping in good health and feather. When you’re carrying out falconry work, we will expect the birds to be flown in a manner that effectively scares and deters nuisance birds.

6 days a week (overtime maybe available)

Remuneration and Benefits:

Salary:              Up to £24,000 per annum. In addition to £1,000 (£83 per month) for using own birds, telemetry and other bird scaring equipment.

Job Purpose:

Working on our service desk, you will Support Team Leaders and Operational staff ensuring the operation runs effectively and efficiently and providing clients with the first rate customer service we pride ourselves on.

You will take ownership of a given area, forecast weekly sales and organising diaries for operational staff to ensure works are scheduled with staff resourcefully, helping to achieve daily targets and maintaining that critical level of customer care. Working within a great team of people, you will follow a job from the point of conversion through to delivering the work and invoicing the client.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Diary management, including rescheduling to accommodate any urgent call outs, holidays and sickness
  • Organise resources to maintain state of service and respond to new works
  • Co-ordinate sub-contractors and service delivery
  • Process all new jobs/contracts sold and liaise with Team Leaders to schedule within 7 days, order materials and access in preparation for works to be completed.
  • Be first contact for the Team Leaders and Operatives with any queries and support required
  • Ensure all Health & Safety documentation and QTI’s are submitted to Team Leaders on new works sold
  • Respond to email or telephone calls within 2 hours
  • Ensure operational staff are efficient & Effective in all areas
  • Liaise with Sub-contractors to fulfil additional workloads, raise sub-contractor P/O numbers and approve invoices once the works have been completed to a satisfactory standard
  • Complete necessary admin, sales reports and state of service reports regularly and on time
  • Identify gaps in service delivery and report to the Support Desk Supervisor
  • Ensuring KPI’s are met

Agree the appropriate strategies and direction with the Commercial Director to deliver the Company targets, then provide guidance and support to the Contracts Managers to help them deliver the strategy, reach their personal target, complete their KPI’s and reach the Company Aim.

The successful delivery of projects is reliant on the Contract Managers ability to correctly survey works, design an appropriate solution and price so that the project can generate profit for the business. 5 days per week.  Monday to Friday however some weekend or out of hours work may be required.

Basic Salary £45-50,000 per annum, dependent upon experience.

Description:

Responsible for the Management of all systems and infrastructure supporting the business’s operations, sales and back office support functions; the business including NBC and all subsidiary companies. NBC are Office 365 based.

Objectives of the role:

  • Support the business by ensuring an optimum level of in-house systems operations via office and remote desktop support to colleagues
  • Manage the provision of hand-held technology to field staff
  • Manage the requests for system changes and be pivotal in the evaluation process for their implementation and optimum timing of introduction.
  • Lead role in development of improvements to company systems.
  • Manage data integrity of in-house systems to ensure data is relevant, up-to-date and accurate.
  • Manage commercial spend throughout NBC’s ICT services and identify best value services and suppliers by way of tender.
  • Manage the interface of 3rd party systems and service support provision.

  • Introduce ticket management system to manage changes to data and systems

The Role

The role of a Bid Writer is a key position in our organisation working within the Commercial Department supporting the Commercial Director, the Key Account Development Manager, the National Commercial Manager and the Contracts Managers on a variety of tender opportunities managing and contributing to the preparation and submission of PQQs, ITQs, and ITTs (RFQs, RFPs, RFIs).

The role will be responsible for creating compelling narrative, identifying key differentiators in NBC Environment’s offering to current and potential clients to win work and contribute to the growth of the business.   The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining a central register of all tenders being submitted, checking daily sources for new tender opportunities and, when submitting tender documentation, ensuring compliance with company policies and commercial requirements.

Working alongside the Business Development Support Executive to maintain a repository/library of information and data from past tenders and documents in an easily accessible format that enables the data to be used to complete new tenders and PQQs.

Duties:

  • Responsible for ensuring tenders are submitted consistently ahead of the deadlines
  • Develop a knowledge base of the company that is second to none, with an ability to produce bids on all company services and works.
  • Objectively appraise tender submissions, to add and edit information as necessary in order to structure effective responses.
  • Assist the Commercial Director, the Commercial Manager and the Key Account Development Manager to plan key stages of individual tender projects and allocate appropriate deadlines with follow ups to ensure these deadlines are adhered to both within and outside the Commercial Department.
  • Own the end to end bid management process for some smaller tenders as agreed with the Commercial Director.
  • Contribute in depth analysis of tender outcomes in order to seek continuous improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities

  • Managing and contributing to the preparation and submission of PQQs, ITTs and Tenders.
  • Monitoring out of date agreements and updating and advising the Key Accounts Team of said agreements
  • Maintaining a central register of all tenders being submitted
  • Checking daily sources for new tender opportunities
  • Supporting Commercial Director, Commercial Manager and Key Account Development Manager to produce written bid responses and presentation documentation in line with deadlines.
  • Creating Ad Hoc reports when required

Work Requirements:

5 days per week, Monday to Friday however some weekend or out of hours work may be required.

Location: Edinburgh with travel to NBC Head Office in Snetterton and Blackdown Environmental’s offices in Devon.

Essential Skills

  • Strong background working within a bid environment (at least 2 years’ experience is required)
  • Attention to detail is critical
  • Highly organised
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with ability to manage priorities and work to tight deadlines whilst facing multiple pressures.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and effectively engage stakeholders across the business
  • Highly computer literate with excellent proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Ability to write persuasive, compelling narrative which showcases the company and highlights key differentiators.

Preferred Experience

  • Ideally with experience in a related industry such as Ecology and/or construction.

Remuneration and Benefits:

Salary              £25,000 – £30,000 per annum

Blackdown Environmental provides Ecological Consultancy and Environmental Contracting services to a wide variety of clients within the transport (road and rail), housing, charitable and utilities sectors.

The Role:

Blackdown Environmental has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Senior Ecologist to help deliver and develop an ecological consultancy service from our Midlands office. The role includes working alongside our existing small team of Ecologists based in Devon to deliver and expand our services both within the Midlands and other parts of the country. The successful candidate will be a good team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Ecology or related subject
  • At least 3 years’ experience of working within the field of ecological consultancy
  • Experience of undertaking Phase 1 habitat survey/ Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (and able to demonstrate good botanical identification), and a range of protected species surveys.
  • Holder of protected species licences.
  • Experience of performing Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) duties
  • Excellent written communication skills and experience of producing high quality reports
  • Full driving licence
  • Attention to detail and methodical approach to tasks
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
  • Professional appearance and manner with clients
  • Ability to be involved in business development and generation of new work opportunities
  • Ability to work away from the office including overnight stays when required
  • Willingness to work evenings and early mornings when required, often at short notice
  • Willingness and ability to undertake training related to rail, highways and construction site work
  • Willingness to undertake drug and alcohol testing when required
  • Membership of CIEEM

Desirable:

  • Experience of applying for European Protected Species Licences (EPSLs)
