Part time role – Tuesday to Thursday plus every 2rd Saturday – 10.5 hour days

Working in partnership with customers, NBC remains true to its original values providing strategic environmental planning integrated with sustainable ecology, bird and pest solutions. NBC’s services have been developed to remove the risk of nature adversely impacting upon commercial activities by delivering comprehensive business protection. It works with clients in sectors such as facilities management, health and safety, construction and property management, and much more, to ensure their working environments remain hazard free and compliant.

Main Duties:

  • Your primary duty will be to patrol the airfield in order to deter wildlife from the active surfaces and airspace.
  • Reporting on your observations through our online system.
  • Observe fully the clients’ restrictions on site relating to movement around the airfield.
  • Correct use of radio communications with the ATC or other airfield users.

Requirements:

  • Basic IT skills
  • A full UK drivers’ licence with no more than three points and be competent enough to pass an airfield driving assessment.
  • You must not suffer from colour blindness due to safety restrictions on the airfield. A full colour perception test is required, and the opticians’ certificate must be presented to the RAF for airside driving permits.
  • Possess a shotgun certificate and preferably a firearms certificate
    • note; if no firearms certificate is held, then you must be in a position to apply for and gain an FAC immediately upon appointment to the role – NBC can assist where required.
    • For FAC holders, you will be required to apply for the appropriate variations to your license e.g. Veri pistol.
  • To be able to pass various MOD security checks to acquire the necessary station clearances and security checks.

Experience of military procedures, airfield and radio communications would be an advantage.  However, full training will be given to successful candidate and therefore a military background is not necessarily essential, so long as you enjoy working outdoors and have a good understanding of nature, are disciplined in your approach, and can maintain high standards without direct supervision.

Reporting to: Regional Manager 

Co-ordination of Airfield Wildlife Control contract liaising with the Regional Manager to deliver an effective service that successfully manages the risk of wildlife impacting flight safety whilst ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all AWCO. 

The Regional Supervisor is functionally responsible with the Regional Manager for the overall performance and the efficient operations of all the sites within the Region of employment.   

Objectives

To manage the daily local operations to deliver a service that effectively reduces the risks associated from wildlife as efficiently as possible. 

Duties

  • Provide supervision to the units when on local duties such that employees understand and have input to plans, as appropriate, and are motivated to achieve their objectives. Undertake regular performance reviews such that all staff are clear about their role and responsibilities.  
  • To manage the people assigned to you so that they are competent and working safely. 
  • Recruitment and Training of new AWC staff 
  • Firearms compliance to ensure the company maintains the necessary procedures that meets the requirements of both military and civilian police criteria. Carry out annual re-fresher training safe use, storage and handling of Firearms and ammunition. 
  • Provide mobile training as required  
  • In consultation with the team leaders and Awco, produce monthly reports in support for Annual leave/sickness or when a unit team leader is unavailable. 
  • Review your fluid rota and adjust if necessary and advise relevant team leaders and personnel to cover shifts as you see needed, familiarisation or training. 
  • If notification of attendance is received from an airfield,  the Regional Supervisor will react accordingly to provide cover personally or via rostering of the mobile operative should circumstances require. Log hours of attendance and Overtime incurred. 
  • Support Team Leaders to ensure they have the equipment and resources necessary to complete the task effectively and safely such as ammunition. 
  • Support Team Leaders to ensure competency of staff working on site, highlight any concerns to the Regional Manager. 
  • Arrange necessary training, familiarisation and competency assessments. 
  • Carryout regular safeguarding assessments on and off site. 
  • Compile monthly reports in the event of Sickness, Annual leave or Team leader on site unavailable with the support of the Team leader and or Awco’s. Distribute to relevant parties.  
  • Ensure all staff are current with regard to passes and training certificates.  
  • Provide AWC operational cover where and when required. 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible with the Regional Manager for the performance of the AWC Region in relation to quality and safety.  Ensure work is carried out safely and in a way that prevents our operations impeding the client’s own operations. 

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

  • The leadership and management of the personnel under your control, optimising manning levels across the sites.  
  • Ensure all AWC staff are competent and compliant in the safe use, handling and storage of firearms equipment as you see fit. 
  • Servicing and deployment of equipment and regional vehicles.  
  • Ensure the appropriate Health and Safety & Firearms aspects are strictly adhered to and to ensure that COSHH and Risk Assessments are complied with. Ensure all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental procedures are followed and controls are in place. 
  • To drive operational efficiency and spread best practice across the Region in liaison where applicable with the Regional Manager. 
  • Assure the observance and continuance of NBC Policies, culture and values.  
  • Carry out any additional tasks as directed by the Regional Manager.  

Communications

Orders will be received from your line manager or above whilst ATC and SATCO may advise requirements any deviation from scheduled hours or conflicts with normal operational procedures should ONLY be carried out with authorisation with the Operations or Duty Manager.

Work Requirements

Your normal place of work will vary across all bases in the Eastern Region and not one specific RAF station.  To be considered for this role:

  • You will be required to pass various MOD security checks to acquire the necessary station clearances and security checks.   
  • You must not suffer from colour blindness due to safety restrictions on the airfield, a full colour perception test must be conducted by an optician and the optician’s certificate must be presented to the RAF for airside driving permits. 
  • You must possess a firearms AND shotgun certificate or have the ability acquire them. You will be required to undertake additional training to be able to deliver competency training to all AWC staff. 

Hours of Operation 

You will work hours in line with the requirements of the AWC contract and this will mean covering rotating shift patterns. This may or may not be in line with airfield opening hours and this may require weekend or out of hours working.

The Regional Manager is functionally responsible to the NBC Contract Director for the delivery of an effective service that successfully manages the risk of wildlife impacting flight safety whilst ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all AWC staff.  

Objectives

To mange the daily local operations to deliver a service that reduces the risks associated with wildlife as efficiently as possible: 

The specific duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Providing leadership to the business such that employees understand and have input to plans, as appropriate, and are motivated to achieve their objectives.  Undertake regular performance reviews such that all staff are clear about their roles and responsibilities. 
  • Managing the people assigned to you so that they are competent and working safely. 
  • Using historic data and information received from SATCO regarding airfield opening times, produce a provisional rota detailing hours of cover for SATCO approval. 
  • In consultation with the team leaders produce a final rota detailing staff who will be covering and dispatch to team leaders AWC staff and SATCO. 
  • Review every Friday when the following weeks flying times are received from ATC, adjust if necessary and advise relevant team leader and personnel. 
  • Check daily that notification of attendance is received from each airfield and react accordingly to provide cover should circumstances require. Log hours of attendance. 
  • Support Team Leaders to ensure they have the equipment and resources necessary to complete the task effectively and safely. 
  • Support Team Leaders to ensure competency of staff working on site. 
  • Arrange necessary training, familiarisation and competency assessments. 
  • Carry out regular safeguarding assessments on and off site. 
  • Compile monthly reports and distribute to relevant parties.  Ensure all staff at each airfield have the required RAF training for their station and that station passes are acquired. 
  • Ensure all staff are current with regard to passes and training certificates. 
  • Provide AWC operational cover where and when required.

The regular hours of work will be office-based hours however whenever necessary you may be required to work on bases and cover rotating shift patterns and/or attend on base meetings outside regular office hours. It should also be noted that this role provides managerial cover for a 24/7 contract and therefore the incumbent will be expected to be available in times of emergency and the respond to the client as required.

Monthly audits are carried out with all Field Staff where the Regional Manager will not only assess the performance of the operative but the operative will also be asked to give their own feedback providing all with a monthly opportunity to document and communicate with management any items that are effecting their performance or wellbeing. These monthly reports are effectively monthly appraisals and give the company an understanding of an individual’s performance against their grade and where that individuals performance exceeds expectations enable the company to consider their promotion enabling staff to have some control on their career path within NBC.

Job Purpose 

Location: Snetterton, Norfolk

Working on our service desk, you will Support Team Leaders and Operational staff ensuring the operation runs effectively and efficiently and providing clients with the first rate customer service we pride ourselves on.

You will take ownership of a given area, forecast weekly sales and organising diaries for operational staff to ensure works are scheduled with staff resourcefully, helping to achieve daily targets and maintaining that critical level of customer care. Working within a great team of people, you will follow a job from the point of conversion through to delivering the work and invoicing the client.

Responsibilities

  • Diary management, including rescheduling to accommodate any urgent call outs, holidays and sickness
  • Organise resources to maintain state of service and respond to new works
  • Co-ordinate sub-contractors and service delivery
  • Process all new jobs/contracts sold and liaise with Team Leaders to schedule within 7 days, order materials and access in preparation for works to be completed.
  • Be first contact for the Team Leaders and Operatives with any queries and support required
  • Ensure all Health & Safety documentation and QTI’s are submitted to Team Leaders on new works sold
  • Respond to email or telephone calls within 2 hours
  • Ensure operational staff are efficient & Effective in all areas
  • Liaise with Sub-contractors to fulfil additional workloads, raise sub-contractor P/O numbers and approve invoices once the works have been completed to a satisfactory standard
  • Complete necessary admin, sales reports and state of service reports regularly and on time
  • Identify gaps in service delivery and report to the Support Desk Supervisor
  • Ensuring KPI’s are met

Key skills/Attributes
