The Role

NBC Environment is a well-established environmental consultancy in the wildlife management industry and are looking for a proactive Airfield Wildlife Control Regional Manager to join their close knit team in the Lincolnshire area.

Utilising your AWC management expertise and organisational skills you will provide effective staff rota management, liaise with RAF staff, submit technical and detailed monthly reports and offer general support where required will keep you challenged and busy. If you are a proactive, professionally presented person and would like to be part of a growing organisation, this could be your next long term role.

You will be required to co-ordinate the AWC contract liaising with the Contract Manager to deliver an effective service that successfully manages the risk of wildlife impacting flight safety whilst ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all AWC staff.

The Regional Manager is functionally responsible with the Contract Manager for the overall performance and the efficient operations of all the sites within Region of employment.

 

Objectives

To manage the daily local operations to deliver a service that effectively reduces the risks associated from wildlife as efficiently as possible.

 

Duties

  • Provide leadership to the business such that employees understand and have input to plans, as appropriate, and are motivated to achieve their objectives. Undertake regular performance reviews such that all staff are clear about their role and responsibilities.
  • To manage the people assigned to you so that they are competent and working safely.
  • Using historic data and information received from SATCO regarding airfield opening times produce a provisional rota detailing hours of cover for SATCO approval.
  • In consultation with the team leaders produce a final rota detailing staff who will be covering and dispatch to team leaders, AWC staff and SATCO.
  • Review every Friday when the following weeks flying times are received from ATC adjust if necessary and advice relevant team leader and personnel.
  • Check daily that notification of attendance is received from each airfield and react accordingly to provide cover should circumstances require. Log hours of attendance.
  • Support Team Leaders to ensure they have the equipment and resources necessary to complete the task effectively and safely.
  • Support Team Leaders to ensure competency of staff working on site.
  • Arrange necessary training, familiarisation and competency assessments.
  • Carryout regular safeguarding assessments on and off site.
  • Compile monthly reports and distribute to relevant parties. Ensure all staff at your responsible airfield have the required RAF training for their station and that station passes are acquired.
  • Ensure all staff are current with regard to passes and training certificates.
  • Provide AWC operational cover where and when required.

 

Work Requirements

Whilst your normal place of work will be based at a specific RAF station, you may if the business requires be asked to work on other stations.

  • To pass various MOD security checks to acquire the necessary station clearances and security checks.
  • You must not suffer from colour blindness due to safety restrictions on the airfield, a full colour perception test must be conducted by an optician and the optician’s certificate must be presented to the RAF for airside driving permits.
  • Possess a firearms AND shotgun certificate or have the ability acquire them.

 

Hours of Operation

You will work rotating shift patterns in line with the requirements of the AWC contract. This may or may not be in line with airfield opening hours and this may require weekend or out of hours working.

You will be paid on an annualised hour’s contract giving you flexibility for longer more regular breaks without effecting your monthly basic salary pay and providing your employer availability when needed.

Toil may be available. 20 days + public holidays. 10 days to be taken between 1st November and 28th February. Toil may be credited or debited.

 

Salary

£21,000 – £23,500 dependent on hours worked and experience (40-45 hours per week)

Following several contract awards we are looking for a hands on Landscaping Foreman to work on projects in the South West and Midlands area.  

 

The Role

Objectives:

  • Keep the birds in good health and feather and ensure they fly free in an effective manner to disperse nuisance birds.
  • Work with management to ensure your daily activities are efficient and achieve at least £450 rpm.
  • Deliver effective solutions in accordance to the specification sold or liaise with Management to present alternatives that will ensure the client achieves their own objectives.

Reporting to: Regional Manager

To work on an RAF airfield limiting the risk to life and property from the hazards associated with bird and animal strikes on aircraft.

 

Objectives:

  • To make the airfield as inhospitable as possible to birds and mammals using the tactics and equipment available to you.
  • To conduct these activities within the licensing made available to you which may be site specific.
  • Deliver effective bird and wildlife control in accordance to the specification sold or liase with Management to present alternatives that will ensure the client achieves their own objectives.
  • Complete Geo pal every 30 minutes to record your observations. Log in and out on each shift.
  • To maintain nil bird strikes ON airfield each month.
  • Complete operations safely with zero H & S or environmental Incidents.

 

Duties:

  • To patrol the airfield in the provided vehicle and to scare birds away from the active surfaces and airspace. This is your primary task.
  • Observe fully the clients’ restrictions on site relating to movement around the airfield.
  • Correct use of radio communications with the ATC or other airfield users.
  • Familiarise yourself fully with the site and key locations.
  • Notify line manager or head office of any issues which fall outside your primary task such as injured animals or nesting birds issues in hangars away from the airfield but still on site.
  • Be aware of the avian and mammalian issues affecting your airfield and to communicate these to the client if required so that you can carry out the required control methods or, to allow the customer to modify their activity while the risks or hazards identified are present.
  • To use the Geo Pal device to report at least every 30 minutes your observations from the airfield and to monitor and record bird species and numbers.
  • To record the use of equipment and its effect and to request replenishment of ammunition in good time so as not to effect operations.
  • Conduct DNA tests or where possible remains removal on aircraft that have experienced bird strikes and to send these to the chosen Laboratory for DNA testing. You will conduct these under supervision of the RAF personnel in charge of handling the aircraft due to the sensitive nature of the equipment.
  • To be FOD (foreign object debris) aware while airside to limit risk to aircraft and life by yours and/or other airfield users activities which may generate FOD. To complete the relevant forms and hand FOD and forms into the RAF or other nominated contractor that may handle FOD for your particular station.
  • To conduct FOD checks if required by the RAF.
  • To familiarise yourself with the types of aircraft that will be using the airfield and how their flight characteristics will require you to tailor the control methods you will use.
  • Assist in the movement of RAF personnel around the airfield when required.

To support the Regional Team Leader to deliver Bird, Pest and Wildlife services to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction, bird/wildlife/staff welfare and profit.

The job involves delivery of all aspects of Bird and Pest Control including, Bird proofing, Falconry and guano cleans working mobile in the area.

 

Objectives:

  • Keep the birds in good health and feather and ensure they fly free in an effective manner to disperse nuisance birds.
  • Work with management to ensure your daily activities are efficient and achieve targets.
  • Deliver effective solutions in accordance to the specification sold or liaise with Management to present alternatives that will ensure the client achieves their own objectives.
  • Complete Geopal as required to demonstrate work is completed so the business can invoice.
  • Log in and out daily.
  • Respond to calls, texts and emails within 2 hours during the working day.
  • Pass 4 leads per month to sales.
  • Maintain 95% state of service on pest control routine visits.
  • Complete works safely with zero H & S or environmental Incidents.

 

Duties:

  • Provide a high level of care to the birds in your possession ensuring you maintain the standards of the NBC welfare policy.
  • To fly the birds during the day in a manner which effectively scare and deters nuisance birds.
  • To house and care for the birds outside the normal working day and if and when you are unable transfer them to an NBC approved keeper.
  • Carry out daily activities as identified in Geopal and communicate any influences that may either make that not possible or improve efficiency.
  • Carry out the procedures required on visiting sites and ensure your own and public safety at all times.
  • Complete pest control services according to NPTA standards ensuring sufficient stock in your vehicles keeping poisons and baits safe at all times.
  • Carry out routine visits to sites to inspect for rodent activity and complete treatment where and when necessary.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Look after company equipment and vehicles and ensure when used they are fit for purpose.
  • Care for any birds of prey to NBC Welfare policy ensuring they have food, shelter and water and are not exposed to freezing conditions.
  • That you are fit and available for work and presentable wearing NBC uniform.

 

Work Requirements:

You are a mobile technician; whilst you will be allocated to a branch and given an area, you may if the business requires be asked to work outside this area which may for short periods mean time away from home. This is neither frequent nor normal but preferred to lay off if the business changes.

Location – You will be required to cover the following areas; Crawley, Guilford, Redhill and the surrounding areas south of the M25.

Working hours – 5 days per week (Monday to Friday).  Some weekend or out of hours work may be required. TOIL may be available.

20 days + public holidays. 10 days to be taken between 1st November and 28th February. Toil may be credited or debited.

Salary up to £21,600 + RPM bonus (average earning approx £2000 p.a.)

You will have a full driving license and your own transport and whilst not essential, you will preferably have your own birds, telemetry and housing.

Job Description:

Using falconry, distress calls, blank guns shots, kites and other methods available, to prevent scavenging birds from feeding on a waste site and causing nuisance to the local neighbours and site staff.

 

Objectives:

  • Prevent no more than 20 scavenging birds access to site for 20 minutes
  • Keep the birds in good health and feather
  • Attend site at contracted times
  • To develop positive working relationship with client
  • Develop skills and knowledge to further develop

 

Duties:

  • Provide a high level of care to the birds in your possession
  • To fly the birds during the day in a manner which effectively scare and deters birds providing a minimum of 6 flights per day
  • To house and care for the birds outside the normal working day
  • Carry out regular patrols of the site
  • You use all supportive deterrents at your disposal to maintain a level of control should the weather not permit the flying of the falcons
  • Carry out daily reports and file in site file
  • Liaise with area manager to improve service where possible and advice of any situation that may prevent NBC from achieving the clients required service

 

Hours of work:

You will typically work 9 hours a day 07.30am to 4.30pm.
