Stewart Priddle CEnv, MSc – Managing Director

Senior Business Leader and Chartered Environmentalist with 15 years’ experience managing and protecting environmental resources including water, air, habitats and species.

Trusted senior advisor at policy level, gaining the buy-in of key decision-makers and senior stakeholders (NGOs, government departments and private landowners), whilst facilitating engagement at a grassroots level to ensure the development of evidence-based strategy within the construction and environmental sectors to better deliver environmental benefits during development.

Focused on environmental improvement on a landscape scale, contributing as Chair of the National Highways Sector Scheme, committee member of the CIEEM ECoW to advise on the development of course content, and committee member of the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust.

Subject matter expert providing advice and solutions on long-term projects such as HS2 to ensure a collaborative approach to early ecological mitigation sites, vegetation control and translocation projects.

Adam Bratt MCIEEM – Principal Ecologist

Adam has over 12 years’ experience in the field of ecology and environmental management. Having worked on a broad range of contracts he is well informed on most aspects of ecological management. He is responsible for tendering and estimating for ecological consultancy services, undertaking and supervising ecological surveys, mitigation works and associated report writing to accompany planning applications.

Adam is an experienced ecological consultant providing a range of ecological services including habitat and protected species surveys to inform Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA). The provision of ecological mitigation strategies is a particular interest, including licensed works in relation to bat species and badgers. Licensed to survey for other protected species including dormice and great crested newts.

Adam is a member of the Design Review Panel providing ecological input into the design review process in the Southwest and provides ecological presentations to a variety of professional organisations including the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) and Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB).

Sophia Priddle – Ecologist

Sophia has over 10 years of experience working in environmental management and ecology with the last seven years being in the capacity of ecologist. Projects have included working on a varying degree of contracts such as rail, highways and infrastructure projects. Sophia is responsible for undertaking and supervising completion of ecological surveys for species including bats, badgers, reptiles and dormice, mitigation works and associated report writing to accompany planning applications.

Ed Nicholson TechArborA – Contracts Manager

Ed joined us from the National Trust having worked on a number of prestigious estates across the country, bringing with him 26 years of industry knowledge and skills to assist our clients. Ed’s expertise covers a wide range of land types and infrastructure including public access, woodland planning and management, parks and grasslands through to management of historic landscapes. Working with Blackdown now for four years has seen Ed add highways and major infrastructure projects to this skill set.

Katie Jones – Senior Ecologist

Katie has 15 years of experience within ecological consultancy, with 12 years based in the South-West and has extensive experience of undertaking habitat and protected species surveys as well as reporting, designing and implementing mitigation and monitoring schemes. Katie holds a Natural England level 2 bat licence and a bat mitigation class licence and a level 1 great crested newt licence and has prepared and held numerous mitigation licenses with respect to bats.

Katie’s main interests lie undertaking preliminary bat roost inspections and habitat surveys, however she also has extensive experience surveying for badgers, water vole, otter and dormice. Before joining Blackdown Environmental, Katie worked for the consultancy arm of Devon Wildlife Trust where she worked with a variety of clients including housing developers, utility companies, supermarket chains and local authorities as well as private individuals looking to enhance their land for wildlife.

Bethan Withey – Ecologist

With a MSc in Conservation and Biodiversity, Bethan’s role within the company is to undertake a variety of protected species and habitat surveys and associated report writing. Bethan holds a level 2 bat licence and dormouse licence and has over six years’ experience working within the environmental sector. Her main interests lie in working with a variety of clients to incorporate space for wildlife within their project proposals.

Tom Shiell – Operations Manager

Recently joining us from Glendale where he managed their utility arboriculture contracts, Tom comes to us with a diploma in countryside management and a strong background in trees and tree related issues. Having run his own successful tree surgery and landscaping business Tom is perfectly placed to oversee the day to day smooth running of the operations team in the successful delivery of your project.

Kerry Dallimore – Quality Manager

Kerry has 17 years of experience in office management and administration roles. Kerry’s role within the company is to maintain and manage all operational systems and ensure compliance within ISO standards. She is responsible for all company accreditations and takes a managerial role within the administration teams.

Louise Ferguson – South West Operations Team Administrator

Louise has 15 years of experience within various sectors.  Louise takes a responsible role processing purchase orders, invoices and sales invoicing, alongside other administration duties. Louise has a keen interest in rural life, animals and the environment.  She spends her free time exploring the countryside with her horses and her dog.

Catherine West – Midlands Administrator

Catherine looks after the Midlands Office, joining us in January 2018 just as our HS2 projects got started. The go-to person for administration and accounts, queries and general tech support, Catherine supports the Midlands team with a variety of experience and is currently studying an AAT qualification.
