We combine our understanding of the needs of the commercial sector with ecological expertise.  Ecological and land based services are provided through our team at Blackdown Environmental, a wholly owned NBC company.

We provide ecological consultancy and environmental contracting to businesses throughout the UK, clients include major construction firms and civil engineering contractors, local authorities, planners and housing associations, water companies and other utility firms. Through the strategic partnership of Blackdown Environmental & NBC Environment we are able to deliver a wide range of ecology services to support the rural economy. By combining ecological consultancy with environmental management, we can offer a fully joined-up service – from preliminary appraisal to completed works.

Ecological Consultancy

Offering a comprehensive range of Ecological Consultancy services assisting clients including planning consultants, developers, construction and civil engineering contractors.

Conservation runs deep within the DNA of NBC Environment and we’ve worked closely with the likes of the Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) and Natural England. We also understand the needs of businesses and are able to balance commercial objectives with ecological responsibility in a sensitive and pragmatic manner.

Ecological and land based services are provided through Blackdown Environmental, an NBC company. This strategic partnership places us in an enviable position in this sector. We are able to combine ecological consultancy with environmental management to offer a fully integrated service to businesses throughout the UK. All projects are managed by staff that are members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). We hold protected species licences to carry out work on all sites to manage UK wildlife from badgers to water voles. Our remit also covers invasive species.

We look after both the practical ecology and legal components of client projects to ensure they comply with all relevant legislation and are fully auditedfrom appraisal through to completion of works. This covers:

Environmental Contracting

Our Environmental Contracting services offer our clients practical and cost effective solutions.

Once potential issues have been identified on site, we can provide contracting solutions for both land and water-based operations. We work closely with our clients, taking time to understand their requirements, providing bespoke solutions that meet their needs and legislative requirements.
Key services offered are: 

  • Tree and vegetation managementEnvironmental Contracting worksTree felling and vegetation clearance, coppicing, arboricultural tree surveys to BS:5837 and woodland management plans.
  • Wildlife fencing – Supply and installation of specialist wildlife exclusion fencing for newts, reptiles, badgers, otters, deer and beavers.
  • Agricultural fencing – Supply and installation of a range of fencing solutions including post and rail, demarcation fencing and stock fencing.
  • Invasive species control – Production and implementation of remediation strategies and control measures for a wide variety of invasive plant species such as Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam, Giant Hogweed and Rhododendron.
  • Aquatic engineering and weed control – Our services include hard and soft bio-engineering solutions, in-channel enhancements and the supply and installation of water control structures for inland waterways.
  • Environmental landscaping and reinstatement – We are able to create, translocate and restore specialist habitats to discharge planning conditions and meet site specific biodiversity targets.
  • Habitat management – Whether it’s preserving, clearing or creating habitats, we ensure we work within legislative guidelines to meet the needs of clients and wildlife.
