The role

We are looking for a full time, permanent Project Manager based our Midlands Office in Kenilworth. You will have experience of managing and delivering large and complex projects on time and to the satisfaction of our clients. Responsible for resourcing and line managing a site team whilst promoting compliance with all company systems and policies. Ideally, you will also have experience of working in ecological contracting, countryside management or a similar field.

 

Blackdown Environmental

We are an environment and wildlife management business, based in Snetterton looking to add a permanent position to our team. This is a fun and challenging role, in a lively dynamic team environment supporting the Service Desk.

As a key part of a central team at our head office, the role will specialise in providing administrative support to our Service team. A main responsibility of the role will be to book flights and accommodation for staff, to assist in the management of the fleet of company vehicles and to perform all administrative tasks as required by the Service Desk which may include an element of stock control.

We provide a friendly and relaxed working environment at our head office. The role of a Contract Manager is a senior and highly respected role within our organisation as these talented people keep the flow of work to our operations that ensures our future sustainability.

The role of the Contract Manager is twofold.

Business Development. To network and develop meaningful long term relationships with clients that will create opportunities for you to convert to business to enable you to reach the financial targets set by the company.

Account Management. You will also lead the delivery of works that are assigned to you liaising with the operations teams and the client during a project to ensure operations deliver within the budgeted costs and to the specifications agreed with the client.

Duties:

A Contract Manager’s ability to develop positive relationships with clients to create effective communications to assist in the management of projects will be a critical success factor to delivering operations on-time to the specified standard. Key duties will be:

  • Writing of project specific risk assessments, method statements and project outlines.
  • On site and off site management liaising with clients, contractors and staff.
  • Liaising with ecologists, clients, sub-contractors, suppliers, regulatory body representatives.
  • Company compound management and resource control.
  • Communicating with Field Teams in “Ways of Working” and expected quality standards.
  • Quality monitoring of Field Teams’ work.

The second key component of the Contract Manager role is ability to price, sell, and manage work. Works may be Bird/Pest control, wildlife management or Ecology contracting and consultancy and may be requests from existing customers or new opportunities generated by yourself. The Contract Manager will have to;

  • Promote yourself and the company, networking to develop new and existing client relationships.
  • Attend site visits with clients to accurately quote for works and offer expertise.
  • Identify, price and supervise additional works.
  • Prepare bid proposals and quotations for all services.
  • Negotiate and close to obtain order.

Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities for you in your region include the following:

  • Business Development.
  • Customer Service.
  • Contract Management
  • Securing material and specialist sub-contractor quotations
  • Formulating tender price and completing submission
  • Tender stage negotiation

Experience

The candidate will ideally have had some, but not necessarily all, of the following experiences before joining:

    • Two to three year’s practical work experience (“on the tools”) in landscaping, Ecological contracting, wildlife management or pest control.
    • Two to three year’s management experience.
    • Further education, ideally in Horticulture.
    • Sales/Business development experience.
    • Entrepreneurial experience running his/her own business

Work Requirements:

5 days per week.  Monday to Friday however some weekend or out of hours work may be required.

Blackdown Environmental has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Ecologist to help deliver ecological consultancy services from our office based in Lichfield, Staffordshire. The role includes working alongside our existing small team of Ecologists to deliver and expand our services both within the Southwest and other parts of the country. The successful candidate will be a good team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Ecology or related subject
  • At least 3 years’ experience of working within the field of ecological consultancy
  • Experience of undertaking Phase 1 habitat survey/ Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (and able to demonstrate good botanical identification), and a range of protected species surveys.
  • Holder of protected species licences.
  • Experience of performing Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) duties
  • Excellent written communication skills and experience of producing high quality reports
  • Full driving licence
  • Attention to detail and methodical approach to tasks
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
  • Professional appearance and manner with clients
  • Ability to be involved in business development and generation of new work opportunities
  • Ability to work away from the office including overnight stays when required
